The Town Council heard Thursday evening that the Fountain Hills Fire Department has maintained its 3 rating for the Public Protection Class determined by ISO, an insurance underwriters rating organization.
The 3 puts the department in a fairly elite category for departments of this size. It ranks the department in the top 8 percent of all departments in the country, according to Fire Chief Randy Roberts.
ISO just completed its audit of the department and Roberts said they were able to achieve a score that will keep a strong hold on the 3 rating.

The ISO rating scale uses a 1-10 ranking with 1 being the best and 10 the lowest rating. The rating applies only to fire suppression elements of emergency services.
The council also approved a two-year extension to its service contract with Rural/Metro to provide fire suppression and emergency medical services for the town.
