The Fountain Hills Unified School District administrative structure will see some reorganization beginning with the 2015-16 academic year, potentially saving the district $72,000.

During the June 10 school board meeting, members heard from incoming Superintendent Dr. Patrick Sweeney on a proposed reorganization plan for FHUSD.

The first major shift will consolidate three positions at the District Office into two, with all human resources responsibilities divided among the Assistant Superintendent for Business Operations and the Executive Director of Human Resources and Student Services.

The other major shift will be reducing the Director of Transportation position from full-time to a .6 position. According to the minutes from the meeting, this will have the effect of turning four positions into 2.6 positions at the administrative level, creating the $72,000 in savings noted above.

Under the new organizational structure, the Executive Director of Human Resources and Student Services will oversee Special Education and related services, as well as the Student Services Specialist and Human Resources specialist.

The Assistant Superintendent for Business Operations will oversee six major areas, including the reduced Director of Transportation position, the Director of Food Service, Accounts Payable, Facilities Plant Foreman, Purchasing/Receptionist and Payroll.

Sweeney voiced confidence in this new structure, which the Governing Board approved unanimously on June 24 with one caveat. Board member Dr. Judy Rutkowski requested regular updates as the 2015-16 academic year gets rolling concerning how well the new organizational chart is working out.
