At approximately 9 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 16, Fountain Hills Fire Department units responded to a fire alarm at Plaza Fountainside at Saguaro and El Lago boulevards.
On arrival the crews found Smokey’s BBQ restaurant at the south end of the plaza full of smoke, according to Assistant Fire Chief Dave Ott.
Firefighters made entry into the business and found a working fire in the kitchen. The hood system activated a single sprinkler head. This contained the fire to the kitchen area, but did not extinguish the fire on the cook top.

Fire at Plaza Fountainside
Posted
At approximately 9 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 16, Fountain Hills Fire Department units responded to a fire alarm at Plaza Fountainside at Saguaro and El Lago boulevards.
On arrival the crews found Smokey’s BBQ restaurant at the south end of the plaza full of smoke, according to Assistant Fire Chief Dave Ott.
Firefighters made entry into the business and found a working fire in the kitchen. The hood system activated a single sprinkler head. This contained the fire to the kitchen area, but did not extinguish the fire on the cook top.
Ott said crews used a hose line to extinguish the fire and damage was limited to Smokey’s kitchen with no damage to other units in the plaza.
The business was closed at the time. There were no civilian or firefighter injuries. The fire damage is estimated at less than $7,000.
