When firefighters enter a burning building, they need to be outfitted with the equipment to ensure their safety as they battle the blaze.
That was a point Fountain Hills Fire Chief Dave Ott was making as he was explaining to the town council the need for up-to-date safety and communications equipment his department uses to do its job. He was talking about expensive equipment like radios and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), as well as some medical devices. These are the highly technical and sensitive tools firefighters use to keep them safe in dangerous situations.
Ott said you are talking about gear with a value of $600,000 or more, and replacement may need to be done more frequently to keep up with advancements in technology, and they often need to be done as bulk purchases.
