The Woodbury Fire burning in the Superstition Mountains about 25 miles due east of Fountain Hills grew to 66,000 acres with substantial growth on Thursday, June 20.
A report Friday morning had the fire burning out of the Superstition Wilderness area and continuing to head east toward Roosevelt Lake and development in that area. It is reported at 42 percent containment.
Residents in the area have been given a proactive “go” order in preparation for evacuation, although the fire remains several miles away.

Fire in Superstitions continues to grow

The Woodbury Fire burning in the Superstition Mountains about 25 miles due east of Fountain Hills grew to 66,000 acres with substantial growth on Thursday, June 20.
A report Friday morning had the fire burning out of the Superstition Wilderness area and continuing to head east toward Roosevelt Lake and development in that area. It is reported at 42 percent containment.
Residents in the area have been given a proactive “go” order in preparation for evacuation, although the fire remains several miles away.
A wildland firefighting team from the Rio Verde Fire District is deployed to the fire and had been assigned protection duty in the Tortilla Flat area between Canyon and Apache lakes. The team has since moved to structure protection duty in the Roosevelt Lake area.
