Fire threat for Fountain Hills

Spreads into desert south of Shea Blvd

A dump truck that caught fire along SR 87 (Beeline Highway) just south of Shea Boulevard spread flames into the desert east of Fountain Hills residences south of Shea.

Fire department crews responded just after 11 a.m. Monday, May 13.
Firefighters from the Salt River Pima Maricopa Nation Fire Department responded to the truck fire and additional crews with that department responded to attack the flames spreading into the desert brush. Fountain Hills Fire Department responded to the area along Last Trail and Leo Drives to attack the fire’s approach from the west. Some homes in the area were temporarily evacuated, according to Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office. Residents were allowed to return once fire equipment left the scene. Fire officials described the fire as “effectively out” by 2 p.m.
