The heated discourse over the food bank/Arpaio “concerns” brought a reader comment that requires a response. The Zinns stated that “The Food Bank has lost (their) support” and they “will be donating elsewhere.” The Zinns, Ms. Dickey and I think many others have gotten so wrapped up in partisan politics they can’t see the forest for the trees.
I don’t care if it enlists the help of the Republican Club, the Democratic Club, the photography club or the bowling club, the Food Bank does good work – they help feed your less fortunate neighbors. Making it pay facility rental fees, or withholding donations as the Zinn’s suggest, doesn’t hurt the Food Bank, it hurts your neighbors by resulting in less food for the needy.

I for one am happy to have the Town support this fine organization. Speaking of supporting the Food Bank, I urge everyone to make the maximum ($400 single/$800 family) state tax donation using Form 321. This donation costs you nothing. It is a direct credit against taxes owed so you get it all back dollar-for-dollar. Donations can be made until April 15 and the credit taken on 2016 taxes.
Finally, a couple weeks ago I took a load of food over to the Food Bank. Are you hungry? If not, please consider helping those who are by making a shopping run and dropping it off at the Food Bank. That can of beans you buy may not be much to you but it will be someone’s dinner. Forget the politics; no one should go hungry. Thank you, David Iverson and all of the volunteers.
