Food bank has holiday wish list

Extended Hands Food Bank is asking for donation of 200 hams and 200 bags of potatoes to feed clients for Easter dinner.

David Iverson, executive director, said the call has gone out to service clubs to either provide the hams or money to buy them.

The items will be the main food staples distributed to clients next week, April 10, for the holiday.

Donation containers in Town Hall, the Community Center and library continue to collect non-perishable food. Anytime Fitness also has a donation bin.

Papa Murphy’s pizza will give customers $3 off the regular price of a large or family-size pizza if two cans of food are donated to the food bank.

A fundraising drive is in progress to buy a refrigerated truck for perishables, said Iverson. The estimated cost is $60,000; $13,000 has already been committed.

“We’re keeping our head above water,” said Iverson. “We’re paying our bills.”

A number of fundraising events to benefit the food bank have not yielded as much as originally anticipated.
