The U.S. Forest Service announced Thursday afternoon it will "take another look" at the proposed gathering of stray horses on the Tonto National Forest.
A firestorm of protests mounted after the Forest Service published a public notice announcing it would commence gathering the approximately 100 horses that congregate around the Salt River and Saguaro Lake.
Neil Bosworth, forest supervisor for the Tonto National Forest, said he appreciated the community's feedback on the issue.

"The Forest Service will continue to engage with the local community, state and federal officials to explore potential alternatives for meeting our obligations for both land stewardship and public safety," Bosworth said in a statement released today.
Animal activists, an area non-profit dedicated to studying the wild horses, elected officials and many citizens have been protesting the planned action since news broke earlier this week.
