A 36-year-old Mesa man who fell to his death off the Mogollon Rim Saturday, Aug. 17, grew up in Fountain Hills and attended Fountain Hills High School.
Casey Frazier was camping near Woods Canyon Lake west of Forest Lakes. He was with his son, fiancé, and her three daughters at the time of the accident.
Frazier’s fiancé told investigators she felt he had been walking too close to the edge and asked him to step back. She said she last saw him standing up along the edge. She turned away and heard a scream, and when she turned back he was gone.
The Gila County Sheriff’s Office reported it had been raining and was wet in the area. The family had been walking along the Rim Road a couple of miles west of the Woods Canyon Lake turnoff.
The Tonto Rim Search and Rescue Technical Team responded and found Frazier between 200 and 300 feet below where he had fallen.
The Gila and Coconino County Sheriffs’ Offices, Forest Lakes and Heber/Overgaard fire departments and the Tonto Rim Rope Team assisted in recovering the body.
Funeral services for Frazier are to be held Saturday, Aug. 24, at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church on First Avenue in Mesa.
