Fountain Hills approves fowl ordinance

Consistent with new state law

The Fountain Hills Town Council has approved an ordinance allowing  residents to keep up to six chickens in their back yard within single-family zoning districts.

The state legislature approved a law last session that allows people to keep chickens on their property. The ordinance approved by council sets the local regulations for the law. The statute allows cities and towns to adopt provisions requiring residents to properly maintain their yards to ensure safe and clean neighborhoods.
