Fountain Hills Art League announces Artist of the Year

Elaine Tarr’s embroidered desert scene earns top honor

It has been a standout season for Fountain Hills resident Elaine Tarr, who was named the Fountain Hills Art League’s Artist of the Month in November and has now earned the League’s esteemed 2025 Artist of the Year.

The monthly winners are selected at the League’s first Monday meetings, and in December, members vote among the year’s honorees to choose the overall winner.

Tarr’s winning work, “Whimsical Spring in the Sonoran Desert,” is a quilted, machine- and hand-embroidered textile piece that vividly portrays the richness of the Sonoran landscape. The artwork brings together years of vision, she said, incorporating javelinas, quail, snakes, cacti, native trees and mountain ranges in a detailed and colorful desert tableau.
