Bill Wolf, a Fountain Hills resident for the last 25 years, is deeply passionate about World War II aviation history and for the past 25 years had utilized his extensive library to research and author 31 books and numerous articles concerning the subject.
It’s a love that Wolf, who is in his 80s, got from his father.
“My father graduated from high school at 16 and spent his college money on his pilot’s license and then on a used biplane and was the youngest pilot in the country at the time. When WWII came along he could not fly as he was a Tool & Die maker and a ‘vital industrial worker,’” Wolf said. “He was interested in WWII airplanes and at four years old in 1944, I was able to identify all the aircraft of the various combatants. From that time on I was interested until sidelined by college, dental school, getting married, establishing my dental practice, and having children.”
