Fountain Hills High School baseball finished its spring season early this month with a spirited run to the 2A state quarterfinals.
No. 11 Fountain Hills beat No. 6 Round Valley 6-2 on May 9 in the first round at the Goodyear Baseball Complex.
That set up a battle of the underdog in the second round against No. 14 Phoenix Veritas Prep, back at Goodyear May 10. Veritas Prep built a 4-1 lead through three innings. Postgame Fountain Hills manager Bob Langer Jr. lamented missed opportunities early. His team had 12 hits on the day.
