Every summer, McDowell Mountain Elementary School offers students the opportunity to expand their scientific minds and create memories through the nationally acclaimed Camp Invention.
Camp Invention partners with the National Inventors Hall of Fame to produce new activities and events each summer. Jill Cooper ran the camp in Fountain Hills for years and Samantha Brooks, a former McDowell Mountain student, took over as director this year.
This year’s theme is “Illuminate,” and one of the campers’ favorite activities is making their glow boxes. Lauren Butler taught the students how to create circuits and wire them in their boxes on Tuesday, and then they played around with different shades of light in their boxes on Wednesday.
