OPINION — The candidate forum for Fountain Hills council seats didn’t go very well for the three supported by Independent Indivisible and the Fountain Hills Democratic Club. All three demonstrated a lack of ideas for what the town needs or how property rights work or how open meeting laws govern meetings.
Case in point: Mirick wanted to do something with the Park Place property. Was she inferring that she would take the property by eminent domain by saying, “the town should do something with it?” She also suggested combining the P&Z meetings with town meetings to fast-track development. A nice thought, but if she understood how government departments work, she would know that this is not an option.
Moving on to Tate, he seemed to struggle to find answers for everything, leaving unspent time on just about all his answers. I have never seen someone running for office that was so short on ideas. Speaking of “ideas,” I was shocked to hear all three candidates punt this question by placing responsibility for ideas onto the general public! They all pretty much said the same thing: “we’d like to hear what our residents want to see for the town,” essentially showing no creativity or ability to lead.
