McDowell Mountain Elementary School (MMES) held its first fifth grade promotion ceremony in recent memory on Tuesday, May 21.
MMES taught pre-K through third grade until the district consolidated and moved MMES into the former Fountain Hills Middle School building last summer. Now that MMES is a K-5 model school, the teachers and staff wanted to mark the students’ advancement to middle school with a celebration.
“We were really excited, but also really nervous because it was our first one ever, so we wanted it to be just right,” MMES Dean of Students Nicole Latona said. “We were super excited to start a new tradition because that’s what everybody in the town loves, is all these traditions we have. That’s what makes us special.”
