Fountain Hills Coalition gives update, hears from Dr. Rutkowski

Opioid funds fuel prevention efforts in Fountain Hills

Correction: This article has been updated Sunday, September 7, 2025, to clarify the amount of opioid settlement funds provided by the Fountain Hills Town Council. The correct amount is $135,346.17. In addition, Coalition Director Tammy Bell does not expect an annual distribution of $63,000, but rather hopes the Town Council will approve that amount for the upcoming year. The Times Independent apologizes for the error.

The Fountain Hills Protect Our Youth Coalition held its first sector meeting of the season Thursday, Sept. 4, featuring keynote speaker Dr. Richard Rutkowski and an update on the group’s prevention progress over the summer.

Coalition Director Tammy Bell announced that distributions of the national opioid settlement funds have begun, thanks to the Town of Fountain Hills. The coalition received $135,346.17, of which more than $36,000 has already been used to raise awareness about the dangers of fentanyl and to provide families with practical tools like Narcan and lockable pill cases.
