The Fountain Hills Community Center is normally closed for a week during the summer for routine maintenance like replacing worn carpet tiles, painting projects and touch up as well as deep cleaning for the kitchen, art studios and restrooms.
This summer there were other major projects underway at the center as well. New large ceiling fans have been installed in the lobby area to help circulate the air. Also, motorized shades were placed over the windows of the lobby, which is entirely enclosed on the side by windows.
Community Services Director Kevin Snipes said both the fans and the shades are already making a difference in the lobby space. He said it has gone from the warmest area of the building to being as comfortable as the rest of the Community Center. Even though the three large ceiling fans turn slowly one can feel the air circulating around the room at floor level.
