I was happy to see that the town council is studying the fees and reconsidering the increases, particularly the elimination of the discount for local non-profits/not-for profits.
In wanting to have revenue come closer to expenses, it seems that the council (and staff) might fail to account for the "free" use of the facility for town-sponsored events and for Senior Center and Community Center members use. For example, the Ice Cream Social does not pay any rent nor do special events sponsored by town staff, such as the Activities, Clubs and Volunteer Expo which uses all four ballrooms. The Art Room is only used by Community Center members. Many activities such as language lessons, men's discussion group, ping-pong, line dancing lessons, etc. use and reserve rooms at various times, but pay nothing for the room beyond their annual $50/yr membership.
The Senior Center office has sole use of a room, but pays no rent to the Community Center. When town staff need a large space for resident input, they use the Community Center, but pay no rent.
