Fountain Hills council addresses ethics rules in a contentious meeting

Ethics complaint process, sanctions against Skillicorn dropped

The Fountain Hills Town Council did what was anticipated during its April 15 regular session when it voted to eliminate the ethics complaint process from the Council Rules of Procedure in the Town Code, as well as dropping sanctions against Councilmember Allen Skillicorn for ethics violations.

The discussion took place against the backdrop of a couple of dozen protestors marching on Town Hall prior to the meeting to voice their objections to the changes being considered. The council was also presented with a petition reportedly with more than 300 signatures against dropping the sanctions and online input from about 50 people in opposition, according to Town Clerk Bev Bender.

The discussion became heated at times between council members as well as the speakers choosing to present to the council.
