Fountain Hills council approves equipment purchases

Brush truck for fire department, excavator for public works

The Fountain Hills Town Council gave its approval to a couple of equipment purchases requested by staff during its June 3 regular council session.

The approvals include up to $390,000 for a brush truck for the fire department to replace an aging unit in its fleet of equipment. Also, approved as a separate agenda item was $66,373 for a hydraulic excavator to provide staff the ability to do infrastructure maintenance that currently must be contracted.

Fire Chief Dave Ott said the vehicle he is replacing is a 2012 Ford F-550 Type 6 brush truck. He said the vehicle specializes in wildland firefighting with off road access to operate in rough terrain. The trucks are built on heavy duty pickup chassis equipped with a water tank, high-pressure pump hose reels and firefighting tools.
