The Town Council unanimously approved a new contract agreement with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) for law enforcement services in the town, but some council members do not like the agreement but said they felt there was no choice but to approve it to maintain public safety.
“I think people know where I stand on this issue,” Councilman Gerry Friedel said. “I don’t think any of the issues we have discussed over the past two years have been addressed in this agreement. I feel I have to vote for it.”
“There are a lot of things I don’t like,” Councilwoman Brenda Kalivianakis said. “If we don’t approve this, we won’t have law enforcement at the first of the year.”
