Fountain Hills council extends permit deadline for apartment project

Also, confusion over development agreement

Fountain Hills Town Council did approve a request to extend the approved building permits for the Park Place apartment development phases two and three but left the developer wondering what it would take to get the project underway.

At its meeting Sept. 2, the town council considered the request from developer Bart Shea to extend the expiration of the approved building permits until the end of this calendar year. However, in making a motion to approve the extension, Councilmember Hannah Larrabee included a condition that the approval was contingent on a “renegotiated” development agreement for the project.

Shea, while saying he appreciated the extension, said he would not renegotiate the development agreement, originally approved in 2018. He said he had brought the plan forward five times only to be stymied by red tape and funding issues. He said the time and the cost of renegotiating the agreement was not an option.
