Fountain Hills council regroups to reassess telecommunications rules

Councilmember Rick Watts appointed to represent council in development

A discussion related to review of the telecommunications infrastructure regulations approved by the Fountain Hills Town Council in September 2024 on a 4-3 vote turned heated at the Jan. 21 session of the council.

At the outset of the discussion on the agenda item Councilmember Gayle Earle immediately made a motion to return the ordinance to the Planning and Zoning Commission for additional review, along with appointing Councilmember Rick Watts to serve as a council representative during activity to develop new language. Earle also included the possible retention of up to two consultants to assist as well as a measure to require the release of an earlier consultant’s report that the council previously declined to make public due its discussion in closed executive session and dismissal of the consultant.

Councilwoman Brenda Kalivianakis immediately challenged Earle’s motion.
