Fountain Hills’ Dark Sky Discovery Center earns prestigious award

For first-of-its-kind dome

The International Dark Sky Discovery Center’s dome earned a nation-wide award for its uniqueness and design.

Like gravity, the International Dark Sky Discovery Center keeps pulling in accolades. The Fountain Hills center, designed by Swaback Architects, received first place for its one-of-a-kind dome from the ATAS International competition.

ATAS, which stands for Aluminum Trim And Shapes, is a metal panel manufacturer, and every year the company holds competitions in various disciplines.

The Dark Sky Center’s dome, manufactured from curved aluminum panels, earned first in the accent category.
