Fountain Hills Dark Sky Association to host annual festival

Featuring retired astronaut

The Fountain Hills Dark Sky Association is hosting the annual Dark Sky Festival from 4 to 9 p.m. Saturday, March 28, at the Fountain Hills Community Center.

Retired astronaut Susan Kilrain, who is one of just three women who have piloted a NASA shuttle mission, will be a featured guest. She has flown more than 7.7 million miles in space on two missions. Joining Kilrain is Tony Palmer, a wildlife biologist and Ambassador for the Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation, an international nonprofit that protects the natural world through the conservation of invertebrates and their habitats.

The theme for this year’s festival is Discover the Night and the event is free to the public and will have a wide array of activities for all ages to enjoy, according to a press release. Winners for the student art competition will be announced and their work will be on display in the Community Center.
