The Fountain Hills Democratic Club (FHDC) will meet at the Community Center Thursday, Feb. 15, for its monthly meeting.

Members and friends are welcome to come at 5:30 p.m. for socializing and snacks, with the general meeting starting at 6 p.m.

The club will welcome Tim Stringham, who is running as a Democrat for Maricopa County Recorder according to a press release from FHDC member Chris Clemens.

“Tim is running because he believes we need someone in charge of our elections who will put our country ahead of their own career, not someone who will spread conspiracy theories to get elected,” Clemens said.

Stringham is a veteran of the U.S. Army and the U.S. Navy, with a tour in Afghanistan in 2012, Clemens said.

After graduating from Notre Dame Law School, Stringham decided to continue serving his country in the U.S. Navy JAG Corps where he continues to serve as an officer in the Naval Reserve, according to Clemens.

The second speaker is Jonathon Hill, who is running for the Arizona Corporation Commission.

“He is running because he believes the commission needs members with STEM backgrounds who would be able to successfully regulate Arizona’s utilities and move the state towards a solar-powered future,” Clemens said.

Hill was raised in Phoenix and has lived, studied and worked in Tempe since 2000, according to Clemens, who says Hill has multiple degrees and has worked for the last 17 years as a scientist and engineer at the ASU Mars Space Flight Facility, operating ASU’s camera on NASA’s Mars Odyssey spacecraft and Mars rovers.

Also speaking at the club meeting is Richard Corles who is running for the State Legislature in Legislative District three.

Corles was born in England and has a degree from the University of Liverpool in Mathematics and a master’s degree in control engineering.

In 1975 he moved to Arizona to work at Honeywell and in 1986, Corles became a U.S. citizen, according to Clemens.

After working at Honeywell for 30 years, Corles and his wife started a wine distributorship called “Orangewood Wines,” which represents family-owned wineries, running the business from the ground up, including sales and deliveries, to vendor and client relations, according to Clemens.

The community is invited to join the Fountain Hills Democratic Club for an evening of presentations by Democratic candidates.
