Fountain Hills has a wonderful museum

OPINION — During a recent visit to your community to see friends, we went to the River of Time Museum & Exploration Center and loved it! Museums are always part of our extensive travels in the U.S. and abroad and it is extremely rare for a community the size of Fountain Hills to have such an interesting and well-done museum.

It was comprehensive and fascinating, with displays on history, geology, geography, mining, flora and fauna. It was great to learn of the rapid modern development of your beautiful community as well as the history of the early settlers and the Native Americans who have called the area home for eons.

Given our enthusiasm, we were chagrined to overhear a conversation about the possible closure of the museum. While we didn’t get all the details, it seemed that the city was asking for annual rent of $75,000 from the non-profit that runs such a worthwhile operation on what must be a shoestring budget.
