Fountain Hills High School basketball is flying high this season

Falcons continue to play with a winner’s mentality

Fountain Hills High School boys varsity head coach Jeffery Bonner has been coaching at the school for eight years now and this current season has been one of his best. The Falcons finished the season 12-6 and 6-2 in region play. They finished second in the 2A central region and became champions of the 2025 ALA Coyotes Invitational.

Bonner spoke with the Fountain Hills Times Independent about the Falcons’ season overall, the roles players have and expectations. “Our team has prepared very hard for the postseason, we took a couple of losses to end the year to teams that we knew we had the chance to compete with,” said Bonner. “The results of those games don’t tell the story of how close the games were and how great this team can truly be. I think the resounding feeling around this program is that we have some unfinished business in these games ahead and we feel we can compete with any of the teams we could be matched up against.”

This Falcons team has a great balance of high-pressuring offense with perimeter scores ready to shoot three-pointers at will and a solid agile defense protecting the basketball. Standout senior guard Lucas Grieco is having a great season and being a vocal leader on the team. Senior Sam Barnard proved he can be a factor on the football field for Fountain Hills. This basketball season for the Falcons Barnard played key roles as facilitator and defensive asset on the court. He leads the team with 2.4 steals per game, second for averaging assists per game with 2.6 and leads the team with an 80 % free throw line percentage. Junior Ahren Lloyd has been an all-around player for the Falcons, leading the team in multiple categories and averaging 11.7 points per game.
