Fountain Hills High School proposes new course

Teachers think it’s time for a change in the math department

Kristen Barsimod, Fountain Hills High School math teacher, presented a proposal for a new AP precalculus course to the Fountain Hills Unified School District Governing Board at its regular meeting Wednesday, Jan. 15. This would replace the honors precalculus course.

Precalculus presents topics to further the study of mathematics, including polynomials, exponential logs, systems, complex numbers, induction and trigonometry, according to Barsimod. It also presents an introduction to calculus toward the end of the course. AP precalculus, regarding the content, does not change much except for emphasizing the topics teachers and students need to focus on and draw attention to, then have an AP review toward the end, she explained.

Barsimod spoke to the impact AP Precalculus would have in the high school.
