Fountain Hills kids learn when, how to call 911

Sheriff’s office, fire department present with emergency preparedness program

An aide ushered children into the gym at the Fountain Hills Boys & Girls Club, where they gathered crisscross applesauce on the floor with firefighters from the Fountain Hills Fire Department and deputies from the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office already waiting for them.

Tables around the gym were set up with coloring sheets, basketballs and other activities, sheriff’s badges and, most importantly, worksheets for children to fill out with the information they would need if they ever had to call 911.

Maricopa County Sheriff Jerry Sheridan, who helped start the Boys & Girls Club in Fountain Hills over 30 years ago, welcomed the children while wearing his signature cowboy hat and gold sheriff’s star.
