Fountain Hills man pleads guilty to investment fraud

Agrees to pay restitution

Jeremie Andrew Sowbery of Fountain Hills pleaded guilty to wire fraud and admitted to scamming hundreds of victims upwards of $7.5 million, a release from the United States District Attorney says.

The series of investment schemes spanned from 2017 to 2023. Sowbery’s plea resolves charges filed against him in three separate crimal cases, however. As part of his plea, Sowbery, 48, admitted defrauding roughly 400 victims from 2017 to 2018 in a cryptocurrency investment scheme under three entities. He was indicted for his scheme alongside co-defendent Luis Ortega, though his charges are still pending, the release states.

Sowbery also defrauded at least 150 victims from 2018 to 2019 through convincing his victims in buying crytocurrency mining machines which did not exist. He charged monthly storage and power costs, also.
