Fountain Hills mayoral candidate moving on from campaign artwork

Received cease and desist order from town

Current Fountain Hills Councilmember and mayoral candidate Brenda Kalivianakis has discontinued the use of her original campaign artwork to comply with a cease and desist letter from the Town of Fountain Hills.

Kalivianakis received her second cease and desist order from attorney Jennifer A. Van Kirk of Womble Bond Dickinson LLP., an outside law firm hired by the town, on April 22 claiming trademark violations against “town marks,” specifically the use of a fountain alleged to be the same as the one present in the town seal. Following that letter, Kalivianakis decided to retire her original campaign artwork and replace the fountain with a pair of palm trees.

“My campaign and the logo were meant to bring people together, not divide us,” Kalivianakis said in a statement to the Times Independent. “Anything that interferes with debating the issues affecting our town is a distraction.”
