McDowell Mountain Elementary School will host three assemblies this week to teach fifth grade students about the dangers of tobacco use.
The school assembly program called "Tar Wars" allows medical students, teachers and other healthcare providers to visit fourth and fifth graders across the nation to present a 45-minute interactive curriculum that focuses on the short-term, image-based consequences of tobacco use, according to the Nebraska Academy of Family Physicians.
The presentation also adresses ways to think critically about tobacco advertising.
