For many Fountain Hills residents, the recent annular eclipse on Saturday, Oct. 14, was an opportunity to (safely) glance up at the sun or stop into the Fountain Hills Library to take part in the Dark Sky Association’s early morning festivities.
For local photographer, Bruce Boyce, this was a rare opportunity to capture the “Ring of Fire,” the point at which the moon precisely aligns with the sun, leaving a bright, blazing ring of light that exists for a moment in time.
Boyce knew Albuquerque, N.M., was directly in the path of annularity, a track approximately 100 miles wide where the Ring of Fire is fully visible -- an opportunity shared this year with Eugene, Ore., Odessa, Texas, Belize, Honduras and other locations around the world.
