Fountain Hills Poinsettia Peace Tree to shine at Stroll in the Glow

Leadership Academy Class 9 honors tradition and community spirit

As the sun sets, the Avenue of the Fountains comes alive with twinkling lights, this year’s Stroll in the Glow will feature a centerpiece of unity and reflection: the Poinsettia Peace Tree, created by the Fountain Hills Leadership Academy Class 9.

According to a press release, the tree will be unveiled at 5 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 6, continuing a tradition that blends artistry, heritage and the values that define Fountain Hills.

A tree with purpose

What began as a simple gesture of holiday spirit years ago has evolved into an annual symbol of hope, remembrance and shared community identity, the release said.

Each Leadership Academy cohort adds its own theme and intention. This year, Class 9 chose “The Peace Tree” — a message the community has embraced amid a time when unity, kindness and reflection matter more than ever, the release added.

Symbolism rooted in local heritage

Every element of the Peace Tree was chosen with intention, drawing from the teachings, cultural legacy and deep connection to nature found within the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation.

The dove at the top represents peace, freedom and love. Red poinsettias symbolize love, passion and joy, while white poinsettias represent renewal and new beginnings.

The circular form honors the Yavapai teaching of life’s circle: birth, growth, death and return to spirit.

A traditional teaching encapsulates this wisdom: “Everything goes around and comes back. What we do today will return to us later.”

Honoring the Four Directions, four flowing white ribbons represent East (beginning of life), South (warmth and growth), West (rest and transformation) and North (wisdom and the ancestor). The white base symbolizes strength and resilience, the foundation of all growth.

A gift from today’s leaders to tomorrow’s community

The members of Leadership Academy Class 9 describe the Peace Tree as both a celebration and a responsibility: a reflection of what makes Fountain Hills special and a reminder that leadership begins with service.

Residents and visitors are invited to enjoy the Poinsettia Tree starting during the official kickoff of Stroll in the Glow.
