The Fountain Hills Republican Club recently held its January meeting with a focus on the upcoming midterm elections.
Multiple candidates for US and Arizona congress spoke at the meeting. Joe Chaplik, current AZ House Representative for LD3 and candidate for the US House, spoke about his time representing Fountain Hills in the AZ House and his desire for limited government. John Trobough, another candidate for US Congress, spoke at the meeting about his blue-collar background which led him to Stanford’s Graduate School of Business and becoming a technology CEO.
Also at the meeting was Jay Schlum, who was elected mayor of Fountain Hills in 2008 and in 2010. Schlum, who is part of a family that has seen five generations grow up in Fountain Hills, announced that he would seek election for one of the two open seats in the Arizona State House in the upcoming elections. Another candidate for LD3 that spoke at the meeting was George Khalaf, who shared his story of his Lebanese family who immigrated to the United States after the Lebanese civil war.
