Fountain Hills resident tracks local weather report for over 30 years

Retired Swiss print operator enjoys tracking the climate

It was with bittersweet emotions that the Fountain Hills Times Independent editorial staff decided to remove its ongoing weekly weather report from the front page.

Dutifully compiled with the help of Town Parks Operations Lead Joe Beauvais, the week-and-a-half late weather report was recently “designated for assignment” to make way for more timely and compelling content for a hyperlocal readership. Little did we know one longtime Fountain Hills resident and lifelong press operator had tracked the weather report in a unique way.

Hans and Esther Gamma built their Fountain Hills home in 1986. Since 1987, Hans, now 95, had tracked the Times Independent weather report by cutting and gluing it to the previous week’s report resulting in long strands of newspaper squares hanging in his kitchen.
