The Fountain Hills Sanitary District is wrapping up a project to replace the ultraviolet (UV) disinfection system at its Advanced Water Treatment Facility in Fountain Hills.
UV disinfection is used in the wastewater treatment process to prevent the spread of waterborne diseases and is a critical part of the district’s operation. Public safety is always of paramount concern, according to District Manager Dana Trompke.
The UV procedure uses ultraviolet radiation, generated by mercury arc lamps to safely disinfect the wastewater after it has been through the advanced filtration systems at the treatment plant.
