Making curriculum committee meetings more visible to the community was a topic of discussion during the Sept. 4 meeting of the Fountain Hills Unified School District Governing Board.
According to Governing Board President Jill Reed these meetings, just like regular Governing Board meetings, must comply with open meeting law. This includes publishing their agendas and notifying the public of their details, but members of the Board expressed concern that folks in the community might not know where to find those agendas, or even that these meetings occur in the first place.
In order to better promote curriculum meetings, Reed suggested the district keeps parents up to date via the Falcon Focus, a district newsletter that goes out every Friday. Digital copies can be found on the FHUSD website (fountainhillsschools.org) by clicking on “Falcon Focus” on the right, which is also where interested parties can sign up to receive the newsletter directl. Board member Madicyn Reid also asked for meeting details to be posted on the marquees outside of schools, for parents to see while driving by.
