Five Fountain Hills High School students advanced to the AIA Division IV track and field state championships on Friday, May 3, and Saturday, May 4, after press time.
All five state qualifiers are throwers. Senior Keian Evans holds the No. 1 seed for boys shot put, and sophomore Nathan Melloy holds the No. 24 seed for the same competition. Senior Julian Sepulveda holds the No. 20 seed for boys javelin.
Only 24 individuals compete in the divisional rounds. Melloy set a personal record (PR) at the Northeast Valley Championships on Tuesday, April 23, and took the final spot in the state championships.
