For Wayne Ross, it wasn’t his 57 years of playing softball that earned him his selection into the National Senior Softball Hall of Fame, but rather his storied success in the world’s most rigorous tournament.
Ross, 76, received an early Christmas present after earning his Hall of Fame bid on Dec. 19, he said. A Mesa Resident, Ross has been playing in the Fountain Hills Wednesday League for 13 years while occasionally joining the drop-in games on Tuesdays at Golden Eagle Park.
Ross said he had played with a core group of friends for nearly 50 years in AAA before opting to play with the sluggers in the Major-Plus. Over his career, which includes 16 years in senior softball, he has collected nine NSSHOF points through playing in the World Tournament with over 600 teams in Las Vegas.
