Fountain Hills to drop renewable energy regulations from building codes

Codes not necessary to town safety

The Fountain Hills Town Council voted unanimously to delete energy regulations from building codes during its meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 20.

The council approved in June 2025 an ordinance adopting 2024 building codes, which became effective Sept. 1, 2025. While further reviewing and applying the codes, staff found provisions to energy codes that are not deemed necessary to Fountain Hills, town Development Services Director John Wesley said.

Codes requiring energy monitoring systems and consumptions and renewable energy systems that requires new buildings to either have a renewable energy source or participate in off-site renewable energy production were deemed not essential and other jurisdictions around the Valley have also deleted the sections.
