Fountain Hills Town Council has approved a plan for the reconstruction of Palomino Boulevard that has the endorsement of a majority of residents who attended the June 17 town council meeting.
Residents who live along the roughly one mile stretch of Palomino between Fountain Hills and Palisades boulevards had strongly objected to a staff plan presented to the council earlier this month. The original idea was to narrow the pavement to reduce the amount of asphalt and provide a five-foot apron behind the curb within the right of way that could be used in the future to install sidewalks.
The residents made it clear to town officials that they had no interest in sidewalks and also objected to the part of the plan that would require extension of driveways, relocation of mailboxes and trying to match landscaping materials for the apron for the future sidewalk. There were also concerns related to the disruption of the neighborhood while pavement was removed and replaced over a period of up to two years.
