Anyone who lives or even drives through Fountain Hills can see lush growth in the washes that run across the town from the McDowell Mountains toward the Verde River.
While the washes bring the community closer to nature, they also pose several hazards including fire and flood.
At its Jan. 21 regular session, the town council unanimously approved additional funding to have a landscape company expand its maintenance operations in the washes. With the specter of wildfires still burning in the Los Angelas area, it was an easy call for the council.
