Fountain Hills Town Council approves funding for sidewalk infill

Grant covers most of $4 million project

The Town Council voted 6-1 to approve $521,812 to cover the bid for a major sidewalk infill project for central Fountain Hills.

Public Works Director Justin Weldy explained during the March 19 Town Council meeting that the project went to bid, and the bid came back at $521,812 more than grant funding will cover. He asked that the council approve budget transfers for the difference so the project can go forward.

Staff had applied for the federal grant funding through the Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) for the sidewalk infill. The project will complete an 8-foot-wide sidewalk along both sides of Saguaro Boulevard between Colony Drive and Fountain Hills Boulevard. It will also build a sidewalk along the north side of Palisades Boulevard between La Montana Drive and Fountain Hills Boulevard. The south side of Palisades is complete.
