Fountain Hills Town Council approves funding for work at Golden Eagle Park

Major projects to address stormwater issues

The Fountain Hills Town Council has approved nearly $612,000 in Capital Improvement funds to address flood control and stormwater mitigation issues at Golden Eagle Park.

The effort stems from extensive flooding in the park following two significant storm events. In October 2018 and almost exactly one year later in late September 2019, storms pouring rainfall over the McDowell Mountains resulted in runoff that caused flood damage to park facilities. The town has been working ever since to make improvements to stave off flooding from future storm events.

Town Public Works Director Justin Weldy reminded the council that areas of Golden Eagle Park are designed and designated for flood water impoundment behind the Golden Eagle Dam that stretches between the park and Fountain Hills High School.
