An update to an ordinance spelling out rules for telecommunications infrastructure, an item staff has been working on for most of two years and the Planning and Zoning Commission had on its calendar most of this year was adopted by the Fountain Hills Town Council Sept. 4.
The council approved the amendment to the Zoning Ordinance related to regulations for wireless telecommunications towers and antenna. This item was first brought to the council by citizens who raised issues about health concerns from radio frequencies, as well as property concerns related to siting for towers in the right-of-way. Staff have struggled with a balance addressing those concerns and state and federal laws which preempt local ordinances to regulate telecommunications.
