Fountain Hills Town Council rejects federal grant request

Councilmembers see too many strings attached

Fountain Hills Town Council denied a staff request to obtain a federal grant to fund a comprehensive Safe Streets and Roads for All study.

The grant program is part of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. The Vision Zero program was established to support local, regional and tribal initiatives aimed a reducing traffic fatalities and serious injuries on roadways.

Councilwoman Gayle Earle said she has concerns related to wording in the Vision Zero program related to racial equity and environmental initiatives.
